3/3/2025 - Character Scrolls and Supplements

Updates to the Main Game

Mostly its a series of minor tweaks. A few of the numbers here, a little bit of the spacing there. The biggest one is that there are only three levels of will for spells now, “Minimally,” “Significantly,” and “Totally,” and their numbers have changed around a lot.

Also, to make the tables more readable every other column has been darkened. No one has requested this yet but it’s been really helpful for me so I think it would come around eventually.

Unless I totally missed a major spelling error this will be the last version of the core rules, so if you’ve already printed the tri-fold like 5 times trying to keep up, don’t worry, your struggles end here. I’ll add a disclaimer for the next one.

Character Scrolls

Along with that, we have Character Scrolls! Each is a third of the paper and has a printable dot-grid on the back for note-taking, spell-tracking, inventory management, whatever you want to use it for. Personally, I always need a notebook for notes but it was requested and I am a river to my people.

Send in the Dwarves!

Thanks to u/CaptainKlang on Reddit, you’re downvoted comment about not being able to play Dwarves was noticed, and I have acted as swiftly as is reasonable. The first supplement for Aketon is called Adventurer Options and contains the following:

  • Dwarf (race-as-class)
  • Elf (race-as-class)
  • Halfling (race-as-class)
  • Paladin
  • Druid
  • Monk
  • Berzerker
  • Bard
  • Blackpowder weapons
  • Futuristic (modern) weapons
  • 108 backgrounds to roll on (with starting items)
  • 36 star signs to roll on (with related personality traits)
  • 36 distinguishing features to roll on
  • 36 ways you and a fellow party member met

Now I just need to get the art for the image and a few more people to give me feedback for it and we’re good to release it… Friday? For free of course, probably on its own itch.io page. Here’s the pictures:

If you’d like to read it more closely and give feedback, go to the Ward Against Evil Discord and become a Beta-Tester for free! Leave feedback over there.

DISCLAIMER: The Adventurer Options aren’t done yet, so if you print it out be aware there will be newer versions releasing to the #beta-test-announce chat throughout the week.

What's Next?

So far writing anything for this game only takes me ~2 days, but I limiting it to one a week max to preserve my sanity. Right now I think the next supplement will be the Arcane Grimoire, which is essentially a GM’s guide + variant rules.

It’ll have rules for using a grid and miniatures, random adventure seed generator, random dungeon generator, mass combat rules, critical hit rules, shields must be splintered rules, and a few other things.

After that, well, here’s what I’ve got written in my notes in no particular order (bear in mind, it’s been less than a week since I even started writing the first version so this is all subject to change):

  • Priestly Prayers (d66 priest/paladin spells)
  • Druidic Divinations (d66 druid spells)
  • Seer Sorcery (d66 seer spells)
  • Elven Enchantments (d66 elf spells)
  • Warlock Witchery (d66 evil spells)
  • Psionic Portents (d66 psionic spells, just use the seer as a full psionic caster)
  • Lost Treasures (d566 treasures/magic items)
  • Creature Compendium I (d566 monsters: Towns & Cities, Dark Forests, Grave Undead, Arcane Constructs, Burning Hells)
  • Creature Compendium II (d566 monsters: Oceans & Rivers, Scorching Deserts, Frigid Tundras, Ancient Jungles, Deep Abysses)

Tell me which one I should work on after the Arcane Grimoire in the comments below or on Discord!

Also, don’t forget to check out my blog for new RPG content twice a week!

Thank you so much for reading!

until next time…

Good Luck on your Adventures!
