Spells with Inversions

Instead of just the first four spells, we have two sets of spells in the Quickstart Rules now: Charm and Pariah, and Dispel Armor and Mage Armor.

I’m leaning more and more towards just including all the spells in the Quickstart Rules, but I’m also struggling to determine what I want to not include. A problem for another time.

Arms and Armor

With the new initiative system, spears and polearms were no longer very helpful, so they needed their bonuses changed. Now, they give bonuses for parrying (it’s easy to keep your enemy at bay with a spear or polearm), which is powerful, but their two-handed items so I don’t think it’s that bad. I also boosted their critical dice and that may or may not be changed again if the balance is off. We will see.

Armor stacking has been clarified. I had people asking about the specific of armor stacking and I realized I took out the block that talked about that. It has since been added back. It wasn’t mentioned in a previous update, but chain armor now protects against all d8 and above attacks so its easier to get armor to protect against high damage attacks.

Parrying to Zero

It’s official. If you parry or dodge an attack down to 0, you no longer suffer damage. However, this is where you perform a weapon stunt.

This will reduce the number of stunts in play at any one time (things were getting a little crazy there for a second), give defenders more of a reason to consider parrying and dodging, and make fights slightly longer to increase the likelihood of critical hits (which are fun).

We’re going to try this out and see how it goes, because people were feeling like there was nothing they could do when struck by an attack.

New Art

Inked Gas the book’s artist has been hard at work producing great works for Crowns 2e! He’s finished up The Basics and has moved onto Death and Bloodshed now, here’s some examples:
