2/27/2021 - Crowns Update
I think it's time for a major update!
Rebranding
The name Hamlet of Heroes goes with an old idea of what the game is supposed to be about. Originally, it was in reference to how D&D5e is essentially fantasy super-heroes. Then, when HoH became its own system, it was about how the game was designed to be a military simulation but in a fantastical age. That last interpretation stuck with me, so I want to save it if I ever come back around to that idea.
Now, the game has gone through a grand total of 4 complete makeovers, and in its most recent (and final) interation, it isn't about being a hero anymore. It's about two things. Getting money (called crowns in this world), and getting an army (that is to say, putting a crown on your head), so the name seemed only fitting. It also helps with a much more simplistic and sleek game design, vs the much more in-depth and over-designed previous editions.
Game Design Changes
The game has not changed significantly since the last update. Some spelling errors have been corrected, the complications table has been finished, and the combat system has been slightly revamped, with back-up actions that allow players to still make an attempt to help their allies in a fight even if they miss the enemy. Armor has also been reworked to be more beneficial.
I highly recommend everyone gives the entire book a once over. It's a full system now. It's totally playable, and I've even been playing it for reasons beyond playtesting at this point. If anyone thinks the book is missing anything you'd like, or has any other feedback, feel free to leave a comment below, I want to hear it.
Art
I am in the process of putting in the orders for the art, so hopefully next update I will have something to show you all. I will refrain from naming the artist until I am determined she'll properly represent the finished product but get excited, she's pretty one of a kind. News on that soon.
To Do
- Add art to all the empty spaces
- Make final edits
- Send the final copies to the printers
